Thermally insulating a façade on the outside

Almost twenty percent of the energy that a building looses escapes through the thermal bridges, like the join between the enclosure and slabs, splays and glass surfaces. It is essential, therefore, to apply building practices aimed at eliminating them, or reducing their effects, and external thermal insulation (ETICS) is one of the most important measures.

The buildings built a few decades ago do not have the necessary construction elements to reduce energy losses.

As there is no air chamber, the exchange of heat energy with the exterior takes place through the brick factory and the deliveries of the latter with the slabs.

The Technical Building Code (CTE) is the new regulation that regulates the construction of all new buildings and the rehabilitation of existing ones, to achieve buildings more energy efficient.

According to the CTE and by means of the thermal insulation system by the outside, the thermal bridges are eliminated and the energy exchanges are minimized.

The system PROPAM® AISTERM It is composed of:

PREPARING THE SUPPORT

The substrate should be stable, clean of dust, paint, oil. Do not apply to traces of plaster. New supports: ceramic brick supports, in situ or prefabricated concrete, concrete block and mortar plasters are suitable. Ancient: need specific treatment.

APPLICATION

Mortar shake. The paste for gluing should be made by mixing with a suitable stirrer or electric shake to avoid the formation of lumps and achieve a homogeneous mixture.

Glueing of panels. It will be placed PROPAM® AISTERM in the form of a cord around the perimeter of the plate or panel with a width of 60 to 80 mm and three beads in the center or gluing the entire plate.

Mechanical fastening. As a complement to the gluing system, the insulation panels shall be fixed by means of PROPAM® AISTERM TACOS DE FIJACION, approved by PROPAMSA SA.

Application of mortar. Placed the panels, allowed to dry 24 hours, sanding is done to eliminate small steps between panels and the lateral or angular trim profiles are placed with the same adhesive used to fix the panels.

Placing the mesh. The adhesive (3-4 kg / m2) is spread in uniform layer on the panels, placed PROPAM® AISTERM MALLA DE FIBRA DE VIDRIO 160 causing it to penetrate by pressure inside the mortar, and again to apply adhesive layer.

Finish. Once dry and hardened PROPAM® AISTERM (min 24h), can be
applied REVAT® FILM or REVAT® PLASREVAT®MINERAL or CERAMIC FINISH (prior to the completion of this finish, consult with the technical department).

Recommendations

  • It should be applied between 5ºC and 35ºC and with a relative humidity lower than 85%.
  • In baseboards or low parts of buildings it may be necessary to use reinforcing mesh PROPAM® AISTERM MALLA DE FIBRA DE VIDRIO 330.
