Renewing old façade coatings

Until recently, to renovate coated façades with coarse acrylic mortars, glass plates or rough paintwork, it was necessary to completely remove the old coating before applying a new one.

Using the hydraulic mortar PROPAM® RENOVACIÓN allows a fine coating to be applied to the surface of the substrate, which helps to repair any flaking and smooth the old render, without having to remove it.

Then an acrylic coating (REVAT® FILM, REVAT® PLAS) or limestone stucco (REVAT® CAL ESTUCO, REVAT® CAL FINO) can be applied as a new render finish.

ANTIQUE RUGGED PAINT COATINGS

Check the adhesion to the old coating support, eliminating by chemical pickling, hot pickling or peeling the degraded parts or in poor condition. In the particular case of granulite, its complete elimination is recommended.

Wash the entire surface with acidic water to open the porosity in the support. Rinse afterwards with plenty of clean water.

Apply PROPAM® RENOVACIÓN in a maximum thickness of 2 to 3 mm (per layer) in the areas where the old coating has been removed. Apply if necessary on old paint in good condition.

Apply REVAT® FILM or REVAT® PLAS to make the final finish of the facade with an acrylic coating.

Apply REVAT® CAL ESTUCO o REVAT® CAL FINO to make the final finish of the facade with a lime stucco. Protect with REVAT® PROTEC ORG.

OLD VITREA PLATELET COVERINGS

Check with rubber mallet the adhesion to the support of the old vitreous plate coating. Remove badly adhering areas.

Wash the entire surface with acidulated water to open the porosity. Rinse afterwards with plenty of clean water.

Apply PROPAM® RENOVACIÓN in areas where the vitreous plaque has been removed. Then apply PROPAM® RENOVACIÓN in a layer of thickness of 2 to 3 mm (per layer) on the entire surface to be coated with the new coating.

Apply REVAT® FILM o REVAT® PLAS to make the final finish of the facade with an acrylic coating.

Apply REVAT® CAL ESTUCO or REVAT® CAL FINO to make the final finish of the facade with a lime stucco. Protect with REVAT® PROTEC ORG.

Recommendations

  • In the case of painted façades, apply PROPAM® DUR to achieve a uniform and homogeneous behavior of the support.
  • Depending on the condition of the support and especially on vitreous platelet supports, it is recommended to apply PROPAM® AISTERM MALLA DE FIBRA DE VIDRIO 160 when the pasta is still fresh. It is necessary to ensure a minimum overlap of 10 cm in the encounter with the following mesh in order to obtain a good final finish, it is recommended to give a second layer of smoothing and later to perform its dewatering.

Build a barbacue

Making barbecues, chimneys, ovens, etc., requires using specific materials that withstand the extreme conditions to which they are going to be exposed (high temperatures, expansions and contractions, etc.). The solution lies in using PROPAM® REFRACTARIO, a refractory mortar which, due to its technical characteristics, is suitable for coating walls and making joints that are subject to environments in contact with fire or high temperatures. The abrupt changes in temperature that occur when lighting barbecues, fireplaces, ovens, etc., produce dilations. When turning off facilities, contraction movements in the materials used are produced. These changes can produce cracks and even lead to loosening, if the materials used for its...

Build a wall with glass blocks

A glass block is a very useful material both in construction, decoration and interior decoration, as it can be used to separate different ambiances, showers, outside walls, or simply as decoration. It is formed by two pieces of molded glass, which are welded at a very high temperature, to create a vacuum air chamber between the two pieces. This air chamber confers the capacity of thermal-acoustic insulation. Once placed provides highly decorative finishes, given the wide range of formats and colors. Making quick fixings in masonry

Masonry tasks like arrissing, small anchorings, door and window framing, attaching pawls, sanitary units, hinges, etc., require the use of quick hardening mortars that can provide very high mechanical resistances in a few minutes.  The solution lies in using PROPAM® CEM RAPID, that is, a mortar formulated on the basis of high resistance cements and special quick setting and hardening admixtures. Fixing glass wool in an enclosure chamber

The need to obtain efficient thermal insulation and even more so since the TBC came into force a few years ago, has lead the construction industry to develop materials like glass wool, for use as thermal insulant and acoustic absorbent in enclosure walls inresidential, commercial, industrial and service buildings. For its correct placement it is necessary to use a mortar that allows the waterproofing of the enclosure against water that can penetrate from the outside, without forming a vapor barrier.
